I moved to the USA in 2021 as an international student with nothing but two suitcases, a few dreams, and a whole lot of uncertainty. I came here to pursue my master’s degree—but what I really ended up earning was something way bigger: a crash course in life.

Those first 3 to 6 months were brutal.
Finding a place to live felt like solving a mystery. Opening a bank account? Confusing. Shopping for groceries? I didn’t even know what Sam’s Club or Kroger were. I spent hours figuring out where to buy basic things like stationery, which card to use where, how to get around without a car, how to network, and most importantly, who to trust.

No one told me how hard the small things would be. That I wouldn’t get a bank account without an SSN. That renting without a credit history would feel impossible. That making small talk would feel like decoding a foreign language. That not everyone would understand my accent, and not everyone would even try.

But I didn’t break.

I figured it out, step by step.
I made mistakes, asked questions, worked odd jobs, met unhelpful people, and still kept showing up for myself. I survived toxic work situations, got my degree, stayed debt-free, and slowly learned how this country really works—from the culture to the systems to the shortcuts.

And now, I’m building Your American Bestie — not as an expert who knows it all, but as someone who’s lived it all.
